Heathrow has unveiled an art installation aimed at raising awareness of neuro-developmental disorders including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia. The ‘Umbrella Project’ at the airport’s T5 Arrivals features 300 brightly
coloured hanging umbrellas, and celebrates “the gifts, talents and
employability of those with neuro-developmental disorders”. Ormiston Wire undertook the project using 3.5 km of cable, with over 3000 fittings in order to suspend 1 tonne of steel in the air. The whole project was completed in 2 weeks. According to Heathrow “the project name stems from the use of ADHD and Autism as ‘umbrella terms’ for many neurological conditions and reframes them for children as unique ‘Super Powers’”. Contact: |
